‘Will be testing the market’: Tino bidding war set to erupt as Bears prepare whopping $7.5m offer

Titans star Tino Fa’asuamaleaui will be free to negotiate with rival clubs from November 1 – and the Perth Bears are ready to strike with an eye-watering $7.5 million offer.

Despite Fa’asuamaleaui’s deal with the Titans running until the end of 2033, the star forward has a contract clause which, if triggered, can allow him to walk out on the club at the end of next season.

Code Sports are reporting that Fa’asuamaleaui could be willing to activate that clause, which means that he will technically become a free agent on November 1.

The Bears and coach Mal Meninga aren’t hiding their interest in making Fa’asuamaleaui the club’s marquee signing with Perth reportedly readying a five-year deal worth a whopping $1.5 million a season.

If the Maroons star were to sign that deal, he’d become the top earner in the game.

Speaking with Code Sports, Fa’asuamaleaui’s agent Simon Mammino has confirmed that his client will be hitting the open market in just under three months time but didn’t rule out staying put on the Gold Coast.

“We will be testing the market,” Mammino said.

“At this stage, he wants to stay at the Titans, but it’s a business and we’ll be having a chat to interested parties, including the Perth Bears.”

It’s been a tough year for the Titans, who find themselves at the bottom of the NRL ladder despite healthy expectations entering 2025.

What’s more is that there is a stack of uncertainty around coach Des Hasler, who is being tipped to lose his job at season’s end.
