With Kodi Nikorima sidelined through injury, Kristian Woolf called on a versatile flyer to slot into the five-eighth position.
Jake Averillo answered that call and delivered a huge performance to help the decimated NRL newcomers to a 43-24 win over the Dolphins.
Averillo, who has previously played five-eighth during his time at the Bulldogs, scored a double and contributed to two more tries, even saving one.
