With the Raiders leading 16-10 with three minutes to play, Starling shot out of the line and jumped into Harris-Tavita in the act of kicking to give the Warriors a late chance of forcing golden point.
The Warriors were unable to capitalise, but Starling has been made to pay for the late hit having been whacked with a grade two dangerous contact charge by the NRL’s match review committee.
He is facing a one-game ban with the early plea, which will extend to two games if he unsuccessfully challenges the grading.
The Bunker wasted no time ruling against Starling and the Raiders, calling it a “late tackle on the kicker” that was “high with a level of carelessness”.
Cooper Cronk called Starling’s play a brain-fade, which would have had his coach fuming.
“I would love to listen to the internal monologue of Ricky Stuart right now,” Cronk said.
“Tom Starling that is a dumb play with the game on the line leaving the ground.”
