Star closing in on fresh extension despite Bears link; Madge offers forward new deal — Whispers

That is according to Code Sports, who are reporting Koroisau’s management and Tigers officials held positive talks in a bid to extend his current deal which expires at the end of the 2026 season.

Koroisau is set to sign for two further seasons, despite being linked with a move to the Perth Bears, the NRL’s newest franchise set to join the competition in 2027.

The 32-year-old’s signature is a crucial coup after the Tigers lost young gun dummy-half Tallyn Da Silva, who was released to sign with the Eels.

“We’ve chosen his loyalty and leadership,” Tigers boss Shane Richardson said on NRL 360 on Monday night.

“We don’t have a lot of senior leadership and we felt that going forward that Api has done the right thing for the club. And more importantly he’s still an outstanding player.”

Koroisau’s extension will reportedly be finalised after the Tigers return from their trip to New Zealand to face the Warriors in a hammer blow for the Bears.

BRONCOS RE-SIGN MIDDLE ENFORCER

Kobe Hetherington has reportedly been offered a new contract to remain at the Broncos, blocking poaching bids from rival clubs for the middle forward’s serices.

That is according to Code Sports, who are reporting Brisbane powerbrokers have tabled a two-year deal to retain the regular member of Michael Maguire’s forward pack.

The Dragons and Tigers have previously been interested in recruiting Hetherington, while the Titans have also reportedly sniffed around the lock.

Now Hetherington looks set to remain at the Broncos until the end of the 2027 season, with his current deal expiring at the end of this year.

“Kobe has been excellent this year,” Maguire said.

“He’s had a real impact for us.

“He started on the weekend with the Origin guys out, but he has been coming off the bench and lifting the tempo.

“Kobe is a real team man and he’s made a great impact with some of his runs. His defence has also been brilliant.

“Ever since I have been here, I have wanted that type of personality in the team and he has been able to show that.”

RESURGENT RAIDER TO SIGN BIG MONEY DEAL

The Raiders are reportedly set to hand Kaeo Weekes a contract extension, despite being contracted currently until the end of the 2027 season.

According to Code Sports, the 23-year-old’s new deal will see him sign for two further years, extending his stay in the nation’s capital until the end of 2029.

The Raiders are hoping to lock down their gun fullback in a bid to stave off poaching raids from expansions clubs the Perth Bears and PNG.

According to the SMH, the final two years of his new contract are reportedly worth more than $850,000, marking a staggering rise for the former Sea Eagles star.

Weekes joined the Raiders from Manly on a two-year contract last year, having now signed two further extensions within 12 months.

According to league legend Matty Johns, Weekes has been the NRL’s most improved player.

“What I really liked about him is that firstly you can see he has found his spot and his position,” Johns said.

“I saw him come through at Manly and he was a kid with a lot of talent. But Manly because they have Tom Trbojevic they were hellbent on turning him into a six.

“I saw something in him last week which showed me he has gone to that next step in terms of confidence.

“Xavier Savage scored the first try and he grabs Savage and celebrates with him really aggressively.

“It was just the way he did it – he grabbed Savage and the way he reacted was something an experienced playmaker would do. It showed me where he sees himself in that team and that he was the big dog.”

DOLPHINS’ BAD BRONCOS BLOOD

The Dolphins are reportedly furious at the Broncos’ reluctance to release Selwyn Cobbo before the June 30 mid-season transfer deadline.

Cobbo has signed a deal with the Dolphins from next season, but the NRL’s 17th team desperately wanted the out of favour Bronco for the rest of 2025.

Despite the outside back not being in the Broncos’ best 17 at the moment, coach Michael Maguire made it clear on several occasions that the club had no desire to release Cobbo from his deal a few months early.

It was a decision which ‘enraged’ the Dolphins, Code Sports have reported, adding to the bad blood between the Brisbane rivals.

The Dolphins really could have used Cobbo as they charge towards a maiden finals berth. First choice winger Jack Bostock is out for the season while some further outside backs depth was lost when Junior Tupou was allowed to exit to take up a contract with the Roosters.

Cobbo was a mixed bag at fullback for the Broncos in Round 18 when filling in for Maroons 18th man Reece Walsh.

With Walsh and Gehamat Shibasaki back from Origin duties, coach Michael Maguire can find no room for Cobbo, who has been dropped back to Queensland Cup.

IN-FORM RAIDERS FORWARD SET FOR EXTENSION

Canberra are closing in on extending talented back rower Zac Hosking in a massive boost for the table-topping Raiders.

While he hasn’t had the best luck with injuries since joining the Raiders at the start of last year, Hosking’s form has been excellent.

In a squad rich with backrowers, Hosking has locked down a starting spot on the right edge.

According to Code Sports Hosking is set to sign a two-year extension to stay in the nation’s capital until the end of 2028.

While Canberra is able to retain Hosking, they reportedly aren’t able to hold onto reserve prop Pasami Saulo.

The 26-year-old has flashed glimpses during his time with the Raiders but has been unable to break into the NRL side this season.

Despite the fact Saulo is under contract with the Raiders until the end of 2027, Code is reporting that the club will let the prop leave early to join Newcastle.

DOGS TAKE FLYER ON LUCKLESS FULLBACK

Luckless fullback Kade Dykes is set to sign a deal to join the Bulldogs from next year.

Dykes, who is on the sideline recovering from his third serious knee injury in as many years, hasn’t featured at NRL level since 2022.

In some welcome good news for Dykes, the Bulldogs have reportedly offered him a one-year deal according to Code Sports.

It has been a horror injury run for Dykes. In 2023, he tore his ACL during a training session. The next year, he missed the back half of 2024 restore cartilage.

His most recent injury was a brutal one. The 23-year-old ruptured his patellar tendon in his other knee during a NSW Cup game.

Dykes showed promise in a small sample size when given his chance in first grade three years ago, but sadly hasn’t returned to the top grade with injury limiting him to just nine NSW Cup games since 2023.
