While Lachlan Galvin is all the talk in the NRL at the moment, another young playmaker is making waves on the field and surging up the Westpac Red Zone leaderboard.

Dolphins halfback Isaiya Katoa is enjoying a breakout season and after another impressive showing against the Dragons, he now leads the league with 32 try involvements this year.

His 18 try assists are a league-high while his 13 try contributions are the equal second-most.

Matty Johns had high praise for Katoa earlier in the week, declaring the 21-year-old “could be one of the great” halfbacks — and his numbers this season back it up too.

“The trajectory this bloke is on, by the time he finishes — I don’t want to put pressure on (him) but — he could be one of the great number sevens. I rate him that high,” Johns said.

“He is a phenomenal talent. I don’t think it’ll be long… maybe in the next eight or nine years it’ll be him and Nathan going head-to-head for that seven jersey. Who knows? They might form a combination.”

Katoa had the best Westpac Red Zone rating of the week while Melbourne’s Jahrome Hughes was right up there.

Versatile Dolphins teammate Kodi Nikorima also had a big week but it is Raiders halfback Jamal Fogarty who maintains his lead on top of the Westpac Red Zone leaderboard.
